Launched in 1964 by the Reader's Digest Association, Inc., QSP was envisioned
as a company that could help shape the hearts and minds of children worldwide
by assisting and strengthening schools and youth groups. By implementing and
supporting national programs that benefit young people, education and the
community, QSP and Reader's Digest invest in tomorrow’s leaders and go far
beyond fundraising.
Here are some of the programs we champion:
Partners In English
An exciting skills-building program designed to
challenge and stimulate today’s students, the PIE program is provided by QSP
& Reader’s Digest to schools across the country. In the 2001-2002 school
year, nearly 450,000 students will participate in this program through their
local QSP sales representative at no cost to the students or schools. The value
of this program each year is nearly $4.5 million.
Mark Brown and QSP's National outreach program against bullying
A unique program designed to reach out to America’s young
people to impact their lives in a positive way through Mark Brown’s
presentations to students in grades 6-12. Mark addresses the issues of
tolerance, diversity, harassment, teamwork and relationship-building. Each
school year, with the help of our sales representatives, this program will
reach students at over 150 schools and educators at a dozen conferences.
Hurricane Katrina
Through Reader's Digest Foundation grants,
matching gift programs and employee contributions, the company contributed more
than $200,000 to Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
Operation Desert Storm Relief
Reader's Digest handpacked
more than $5,000 holiday gift bags to make life a little easier on military
personnel overseas during this crisis. Our QSP representatives across the
country asked thousands of students to
write letters to these servicemen and woman and a touching letters of hope and
thanks were included in each bag.
The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp
This summer camp is the result of Paul Newman’s
vision for a place where seriously and terminally-ill children enjoy, at no
charge, a camping experience as close as possible to that enjoyed by healthy
children. The camp is used during the off seasons for oncological seminars and
counseling sessions for parents and siblings who have lost a family member. QSP
matches up to $100,000 in gifts from schools and youth groups to the camp.
National Library Enhancement Program
QSP and Reader's Digest have placed books in
thousands of libraries & schools across America – a total retail value of
$3 million in books in 1999 alone.
Child Safety Seat Campaign
An outreach program designed
to raise awareness of child safety seats. Safety kits (child safety seat
information and guidelines plus a child seat safety video with safety tips)
have been distributed at no charge to over 3,000 school districts and
communities nationwide by QSP sales representatives.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America's National Youth of the Year Program
For nearly 60 years, the RD
Foundation has proudly sponsored the BGCA National Youth of the Year Program, a
character and leadership awards program that recognizes outstanding Club
members for their dedication to their families, Club and community.As the founding sponsor, RDF has given over
$8 million to run the program from coast to coast, year after year, and provide
scholarships for winners from the local Club level to the state, regional and
national levels.
United Negro College Fund
Since 1949, the Reader's
Digest Foundation has provided college scholarships for undergraduates
attending UNCF colleges and pursuing careers in journalism or
communications.The grant is designed to
help foster the presence of minority students in these fields.
September 11th Disaster Relief Matching Fund
Donations made by schools and organizations to
the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund were matched dollar-for-dollar by
the Reader's Digest Foundation up to a total Foundation contribution of
$500,000 nationwide. As a result of this program alone, $1.5 million dollars in
donations were made to the American Red Cross in just a few short weeks.
